In this article "Hope for a second chance" it talks about how children are being arrested and punished for their wrong doings. But they are all under the age of 18, so there has been much talk of how since they are 18 that they should receive a second chance. I think that that is fair because these kids are only kids, their minds aren't fully developed and they might not know right from wrong.
Many adults do not want to give crime committing children a second chance. "Some may argue that if these juvenile delinquents get a second chance, they will just commit other crimes." I think many adults thinking is that these kids are kids and will make the same mistake over again because they are kids, and kids are still learning and make many mistakes, but that is all part of growing up. But if a kid is thrown in jail at age 14 and stays in juvenile for 4 years till he is 18 and then is thrown in jail, that isn't exactly going to mold the kid into a model citizen, but maybe if you give the kid a chance and gave him some tips and pointers on how to become a better person and let them out they will most likely turn out better.
Also there is an argument that children should be trialed as adults and not as children. "Some people believe that children should be tried as adults when prosecuted for certain serious crimes. Others feel that children should be tried as minors because they are not yet adults, and therefore, they should be treated differently. This is an important debate because how we choose to punish juveniles affects both our current and future society. Kids all over the United States are being tried differently in court, and it is not fair to judge and punish them inconsistently for the same crime." I believe that children under 18 do deserve some form of punishment depending on the crime but there like 13 or 12 years old they don't know any better, their mind isn't developed enough to know what they are doing is wrong. They could have be influenced or raised in a not so great enviorment.
So are kids crimes really worth punishing? Or do they just need a push in the right direction? I think they should be punished in some way just so they learn there lesson but not be punished like a 25 year old would be, because they are different people and they committed different crimes. The difference, the 25 most likely knew what he was doing the kid, maybe he knew maybe he didn't the fact is kids aren't supposed to know everything yet their supposed to learn from their mistakes and you can't do that if you keep them locked up.

Non-fiction article reader response
The non-fiction article I am doing a response on is "Forging Path to Starting Line For Younger Disabled Athletes". This article talkes about how disabled athletes want to start to compete with non-disabled pro athletes, insted of just competing against other disabled athletes, but many people do not want this too happen.
I think that disabled athletes do have a right to compete against non disabled athletes because they want to challenege. Which is great because were always told to challenege ourselves in one way or another. I think that people don't want these group to compete against each other because they are afraid if the non disabled athletes win all the time it will get people mad that the disabled athletes aren't winning and it's not fair.
Maybe people never thought it would be an honor to compete against pros. That they don't care if they win or loose, they're just happy that they can compete and they are allowed too. That they are finally challenged. They might learn from the pros and who knows one day beat them at their own game?
So I think that they should be able to compete, you never know how it will go. Really it's not like they are gonna die from this, they just want a chance to compete what's the harm in that? Exactly no harm done.
